If you are considering any of our cosmetic or general dentistry treatments, a new patient examination gives us a complete overview of your dental health and how we can help. Visiting a new dentist can feel a little unnerving at first, but our team will make you feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible.
A new patient examination is a detailed assessment of the whole mouth, the intra-oral tissues (gums, cheeks and tongue) and an extra-oral examination of the glands in the neck and the temporomandibular joint. You will also complete a full medical history form, so please bring a list of any medications with you.
During the appointment, two small bitewing x-rays may be taken to check under existing fillings and between the teeth for decay. A full mouth cancer check is also carried out as part of the examination.
Once the examination is complete, if any treatment is required you will be given all your options and a printed treatment plan detailing costs. You then sign the treatment plan and a consent form for any treatment before booking the relevant appointments at reception.
We recommend a check-up and clean every six months. If you have no dental issues and no fixed retainer, this can be once every 12 months; for those with dental issues, every three to four months is advised.
Please bring any medical forms if you are on medication, insurance information if relevant, and a list of your concerns or treatment goals.
It's perfectly normal to switch dentists, and you can change as often as you like. Switching to our practice is a quick and easy process.
